Today, August 25, was a good day for music lovers. So many artists dropped new work! It's been hard to keep up, but we couldn't help but notice that Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus were kind of twinning (fraternal twinning?) in their respective videos for their new singles. Both Disney Channel alums dipped into the glittery pigments for their looks.
In the music video for her latest single “Single Soon,” Gomez is having the best night of her light eating, dancing, singing karaoke with friends, and actively not worrying about her impending breakup. Metallics and shimmer are major themes throughout her outfits and makeup. In one scene, her hair is piled on her head into a messy bun with face-framing pieces that cascade past her cheekbones. Her eyes were heavily rimmed with black liner that created a sultry vibe reminiscent of TikTok's siren eyes trend.
Right above the black eye liner, a purple pigment was added for some color, and lastly, a light shimmery lavender shadow was buffed on her lids. Her glam was likely done using Rare Beauty products, so I'm 99 percent positive that she used the glittery Pick-Me-Up shadow from the Discovery Eye Shadow Came To Play Palette on her lids. At one point in the video, as she's getting ready for her big night out, she swipes a pink gloss over her lips, which has the telltale packaging of a With Gratitude Dewy Lip Balm.
If you're feeling inspired by Gomez's look — and aren't a Rare Beauty loyalist — you could also use MAC Dazzleshadow in Shine De-Light or Urban Decay's 24/7 Eye Shadow in Free Bird to recreate the shimmery lavender pigment on her eyes. NYX Professional Makeup's Retractable Eye Liner in the shades Purple and Black are suitable for recreating her liner. We also recommend Maybelline Lifter Gloss in shades Silk, Petal, or Moon for the glossy lip.

Like Gomez, Cyrus adopted glimmering eye pigments for the music video for “Used to Be Young," but like the song, it's sort of the opposite vibe of Gomez's look. (Hey, glitter can be versatile!) Cyrus spends most of the video looking straight at the camera as she tearfully sings. As the light fades in and out, the bright teal shimmer in her inner corner gleams. At some points, the glistening pigment looks like the same color as her eyes only enhancing the blue hue.

To recreate this look at home, grab a fluffy blending brush and blue eye shadow. We suggest Half Magic's Eyeshadow Single in the bright Mermacculate, About Face's Fractal Glitter Eye Paint in Above Santorini, or Danessa Myricks Metallic Colorfix in Mermaid.
Maybe it's because I watched both these stars on my TV screen, but it feels like a perfect coincidence that these two women who were running Disney Channel released music videos with similar eye makeup.
